This week the franchise goes to the Queen herself. Alison Hinds, Barbados-raised, Square One alumna, the voice behind Roll It Gal and the woman who put the Queen of Soca title on the map, headlined Cambridge Carnival 2026 in Central Square on a wet September Sunday. She came off the stage to the barricade with the mic in both hands, leaned into the crowd and gave the front row a look that said thirty-plus years in this business and not a step lost. Rain on the stage, umbrellas across the square, flags from every island up, and the only person not worrying about the weather was the one holding the microphone. Black will never crack.
