Newbury Yarns was ultimately born in Bristol, England in the early 70’s when a young woman, with the help of two aunts, taught herself how to knit and later design knitwear. After traveling to America with her husband and two small children in the early 80’s, owner Aldrich Robinson, dreamt of opening her own knitwear boutique. She began designing sweaters and launched her design line, Aldrichar of Boston. Over the next twenty years Aldrich kept abreast of knitwear design and employed knitters throughout Massachusetts and New York to make her designs a reality. Although she sold many pieces, Aldrich still wanted to open her own boutique. After years of searching for spaces that would give the ambience she envisioned in her boutique and be accessible to working women, she finally found a small space downtown Boston on Newbury Street and on July 2, 2004, opened Newbury Yarns. In 2007, Aldrich expanded and opened a second store in Dedham, Massachusetts, which she later closed in order to remain a small business and maintain the family values of the store. Aldrich kept her dream alive for over 30 years out of a love for knitting and designing that has allowed her the ability to effectively assist customers in finding the best products for their projects. She prides herself on remaining knowledgeable about knitwear and fashion trends as well as providing natural fibers and high quality yarn and products to her customers. As Newbury Yarns is a family owned and operated business, Aldrich values family and welcomes her customers with open arms. In fact, many customers often come in to see her now 2 yr old grandson who was often there with her. Newbury Yarns stands for high quality service and products. It is company policy to assist customers to the fullest extent possible, in order to ensure that once they have left the store, they feel confident that they received expert advice (not to mention yarn) and can tackle the project before them. Not to worry, however. Your experience does not end once we hand you your receipt. Should you have questions or make a mistake, Aldrich will be there to help you figure it out, as her aunts did for her. That’s the Newbury Yarns way. After all, we are not just your average yarn store
